The Science Olympiad team participates in competition among “intathletes” — intellectual athletes — in twenty-three competitions. Teams have fifteen students, which means each student must compete in more than one event.
Students compete through traditional exams on subjects such as chemistry, physics, and biology. But they also compete in more unusual events such as:
- Remote Sensing
- Robot Ramble
- The Sounds of Music
- Forensics
- Write It – Do It
Students who participate in this afternoon option perform experiments, create robotic, mechanical, and aeronautic competition entries which must perform specific tasks, and prepare for academic events in the Virginia State Science Olympiad. All areas of physical and biological science and engineering are included in the Science Olympiad events. This option is offered in the fall season.
