Jonathan E. Lee ’01

Jonathan Lee’s leadership and performance in cross country, basketball, and track & field during his high school athletic career were nothing short of exceptional. During his high school career he earned twelve varsity letters and the prestigious Rinehart Medal for Athletic Worth. Lee was also the captain of the cross country team during his junior and senior years, earning All-IAC, All-City, and All-State honors both years, having previously achieved All-State recognition as a sophomore. His leadership propelled the team to victory in the Alexandria City Independent School Cross Country Championship. For his outstanding contributions, he received the Parker Reed Carr Most Valuable Runner Award in both his junior and senior years.

Lee’s basketball career was equally impressive. He played on State Championship teams during his freshman and sophomore years and was captain of the team during his senior year. As the leading scorer in both his junior and senior seasons, he garnered All-IAC honors. Lee also earned the William Caskie Watts ’35 Most Valuable Player Award for basketball in both his junior and senior year.

In track & field, Lee continued to demonstrate his athletic prowess. He captained the team his senior year and was the IAC 800m champion for three consecutive seasons. His contributions to the sport were acknowledged with the James A. Cathcart III ’55 Scholarship in Memory of C.V. Tompkins for Track & Field his junior year. Additionally, he served as a senior monitor and was a member of the Honor Committee, highlighting his commitment to leadership and integrity.

Lee’s basketball journey continued at William & Mary, where he further honed his skills and competitive spirit. After his collegiate career, he returned to his alma mater, serving as an assistant coach for the boys’ cross country and varsity boys’ basketball teams until 2021. His continued dedication to athletics and mentorship has left a lasting impact on the School community.
