The deButts Health & Wellness Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
Episcopal seeks to create opportunities for students and faculty to thrive on campus through an intentional and inspirational balance of ambitious pursuits and healthy lifestyles.
Building the Space: The School is constructing the deButts Health and Wellness Center to replace McAllister Health Center, originally built in 1934 to serve a significantly smaller, all-male student body. Replacing it has long been identified as a need. Features will include comprehensive treatment and clinical work areas, a classroom for health and wellness courses; a separate area and offices dedicated to the school counselors; a meditation room; and separate waiting areas for sick and "well" patients. Construction began in June 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in time for use during the 2022-23 school year.
Impactful Programming: In addition to fulfilling essential medical needs, the new facility will serve as a hub for the School’s Health and Wellness programming, as well as expanded counseling services. Episcopal is a pioneer in wellness initiatives that are relevant to the needs of today’s adolescents. Areas that are addressed include emotional and physical well-being, health risks associated with drugs and alcohol, stress-management, and sleep hygiene.
