Funding the EHS Experience

Episcopal offers a transformative educational experience to students. That experience is a direct reflection of the investment made by families, alumni, and friends of the school today and over the course of the School’s history. Each current student’s experience is funded through four primary sources of revenue:
TUITION
~55% OF ANNUAL BUDGET
  • Episcopal’s tuition fee is inclusive of academic tuition, room and board, basic health expenses, and the vast majority of school-sponsored academic, athletic, and recreational activities.
  • Tuition covers just under 70% of the full per-student cost to fund a year at EHS.
  • Around one-third of EHS families will receive some need-based financial aid each year.

DONATIONS TO THE ROLL CALL
~10% OF ANNUAL BUDGET
  • Donations to the Roll Call – Episcopal’s annual fund – are immediate-use dollars, providing about $8,000 per current student.
  • Contributions range from $1 during a student’s senior year to leadership gifts of $5,000 to $50,000 or more.
  • The School’s greatest expense is people: salary and benefits for our faculty and staff. Other operating expenses range from theater costumes to 3D printers. Roll Call dollars do it all and, most importantly, help moderate tuition costs.

ENDOWMENT DRAW
~35% OF ANNUAL BUDGET
  • The endowment serves as the School’s trust fund: a way to enable our strategic priorities and secure our financial future.
  • Thanks to Episcopal’s long-standing tradition of philanthropy, we have a healthy and growing endowment that is invested and professionally managed.
  • The School takes a draw of 4.5% each year to support School operations while ensuring long-term growth.

COURAGE: THE CAMPAIGN FOR EPISCOPAL
  • Publicly launched in Fall 2022, this $150MM campaign is the largest in the School’s history.
  • Thanks to COURAGE, EHS has constructed 12 faculty residences, two new dormitories, the deButts Health & Wellness Center, and a new track and field.
  • Endowment priorities include financial aid, faculty and staff support, student life and wellness, the McCain-Ravenel Center, and a capital renewal fund for the maintenance of our facilities.
  • Capital and endowment gifts are typically larger donations ranging from $25,000 to multi-millions. Gifts are often received as multi-year pledges and estate gifts.
  • Expanding annual support of the Roll Call is an important goal of the Courage Campaign. Yearly gifts of all sizes make an impact.
