With Courage We Will...Maximize the power of relationships and commitment to community.
We will reinforce the EHS Portrait of a Graduate qualities by increasing the frequency and depth of interactions between adults and students through the School’s enhanced Residential Life curriculum.
At the heart of Episcopal’s 2018 Strategic Plan is a healthy and robust residential life experience and the powerful learning it creates. We know that fully leveraging our 100% boarding model unlocks matchless opportunities for our students to develop intellectual and moral courage and to embrace healthy lifestyles that fuel their most ambitious pursuits.
Our students are here 24/7, and the hours outside of the academic day are as critical to their growth and development as their time in the classroom. Our re-imagined Residential Life Curriculum reinforces the EHS Portrait of a Graduate qualities with impactful conversations led by dorm parents, counselors, and advisors, and with more frequent interactions between adults and students.
Faculty living on dorm are the quintessential in loco parentis; having the right size “dorm family” enables them to seize learning opportunities whenever and wherever they present themselves and to develop deeper relationships that lead to a more impactful delivery of our residential life curriculum. Episcopal’s two new dormitories have brought the ratio of students-to-faculty living on dorm down to 15:1, a ratio that is in line with our peer schools, and, more importantly, is most conducive to fostering powerful connections and delivering our mission and the School’s commitment to families.
In fall 2022, two new 36-bed dormitories opened, each with three faculty residences. There was no increase in enrollment, but rather, the School is de-densifying, lowering the student-to-faculty ratios, and creating more community spaces in each existing dorm. The new dormitories are equipped with full kitchens for student use and feature light-filled, comfortable common rooms on both floors. The buildings are Silver LEED Certified and they use a Geothermal HVAC System.
