Dr. Charlotte Fryar

Biography:
Born in North Carolina’s Piedmont and raised in its mountains, Charlotte holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she taught race, landscape, and oral history classes. She is the author of the essay collection Potomac Fever: Reflections on the Nation’s River, forthcoming March 2025, and multiple award-winning essays exploring the intersections of race, place, nature, and culture in the American South.

At Episcopal, Charlotte teaches two sections of American Studies and an environmental writing elective and serves as a faculty advisor to The Daemon. She is also a member of the West Dorm team. A passionate naturalist and trained clinical herbalist, Charlotte enjoys trail running, foraging, hiking, gardening, gravel biking, and any other activity that gets her outdoors.
