Lindsey Sprague deButts ’08

Lindsey Sprague deButts ’08 completed her three-year athletic career at Episcopal with nine varsity letters, earning the James H. Fannon Jr. Family Award for Athletic Worth. Her exceptional skills and dedication to her sports were recognized with numerous honors and awards. In field hockey, she achieved All-ISL honors during both her junior and senior seasons and was named Second-Team All-State. She also stood out in basketball as a two-year starter and played a pivotal role in lacrosse. As a sophomore, she was a top defensive player on the state championship lacrosse team, leading the team to a number five state ranking during her junior year. She also earned spots on the Capital Lacrosse All-Star team and the Mid-Atlantic team, representing the Washington-Baltimore area at the national tournament at Lehigh University. deButts received Honorable Mention All-ISL following her junior season and All-ISL as a senior. During her senior year, she garnered Second-Team All-State, Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention, U.S. Lacrosse All-America, and Academic All-America honors, and was awarded the Tyler Most Valuable Player Award. Additionally, she served as a member of the Honor Committee and was a senior monitor.

Continuing her lacrosse career at Princeton University, deButts started all 68 games on defense over her four years, earning numerous accolades. As a freshman, she was named to the womenslacrosse.com All-Rookie team, contributing to the fifth-ranked defense in the country with an 8.67 goals-against average. She was a unanimous All-Ivy League selection as a sophomore, earned All-Ivy and All-Region honors as a junior, and was again All-Ivy as a senior. During her senior year, she was on the NCAA Tewaaraton Trophy watch list as one of the top players in the country. She received Second-Team All-America honors from womenslacrosse.com following her sophomore and junior seasons and was named Third-Team All-America by the IWLCA after her senior season. Under her leadership, Princeton made the NCAA tournament during her freshman and junior years, advancing to the quarterfinals each time.
