The varsity football team honored 17 graduating seniors before competing against the Landon Bears:

The Maroon offense struggled to get much going in the first half. However, Landon was able to put together two long sustained drives together to score two first half touchdowns. The Maroon offense answered quickly in the 2nd half by scoring two unanswered touchdowns of their own to the tie the game 14-14. QB John Boyles ’20 scored both TD’s with his strong running ability.
The Maroon defense, led by Litchfield Ajavon ’19 and Jeff Stallings ’20 each had 9 tackles on the day. Salim Turner-Muhammad ’19 had a solid game in the secondary and was able to secure an interception.
In the 4th quarter, The Maroon offense marched down the field and scored another TD, but was called back by a controversial holding penalty. The penalty pushed the Maroon offense out of field goal range and Landon took control of the ball and the clock. The Maroon offense had 56 reps compared to Landon’s 73.
Late in the 4th quarter, Landon marched the ball down the field, converted a fake punt, and secured their 8th victory of the season by hitting a 10 yard field with only 30 seconds remaining in the game.
It was a hard-fought game, but unfortunately the Maroon football team fell short. The Maroon Varsity football team is now 5-3 and will face Woodberry, who is also 5-3, in 118th meeting of the South’s oldest high school football rivalry game.
