Admired by the entire Episcopal community, Mrs. King brought her tremendous athletic abilities to the EHS lacrosse, basketball, and field hockey teams. She was the first Old Girl to be awarded a Division I athletic scholarship, and is now the first to be inducted into the EHS Athletic Hall of Fame. She was co-captain of the field hockey team her senior year and was named All-ISL and Honorable Mention All-Metro her junior and senior years. Mrs. King helped lead EHS to the ISL field hockey championship in her sophomore year. Also co-captain of basketball her senior year, she was named All-ISL her sophomore and senior years, All-Metro (2nd team) her sophomore year, and ISL All-Tournament Team her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She led EHS to the ISL Division A basketball championship her sophomore and junior years, to the Division AA championship her senior year, and to the Virginia Invitational Basketball Tournament championships her junior and senior years. Also a powerhouse in lacrosse, Mrs. King was co-captain her senior year and was named All-American her sophomore and senior years, Honorable Mention All-American her junior year, All-ISL her sophomore, junior, and senior years, All-Metro her sophomore and senior years, and Honorable Mention All-Metro her junior year. She was selected to the All-South Team of the USLA National Tournament in her sophomore, junior, and senior years. In 1995, she was selected for the U.S. 19-and-Under World Cup Team. Mrs. King received The Tyler Award for girls’ lacrosse, the James H. Fannon, Jr. Family Medal for athletic worth, and the C.C. Baldwin Medal for sportsmanship her senior year.
A leader on and off the field, Mrs. King was elected to the Honor Committee and served as a Senior Monitor. After EHS, she served as tri-captain of the University of North Carolina lacrosse team and set a school record for draw control. She was a four-year starter, named ACC Athlete of the Week, selected as All-ACC her junior and senior years, and named All-America (2nd team). She was also a member of U.S. Developmental Lacrosse Squad.
