Earlier this month, all varsity athletics teams gathered in Laird Dining Hall for the annual Winter Athletics Banquet. The evening was filled with camaraderie and reflection, highlighted by a speech from Mazen Ikuma Asad ’25, who was named Most Valuable Player on the boys' swimming team. “Unravel yourself to what your sport has to offer, whether it be a ticket to play at the next level, a lifelong friendship, a mentor, a lesson, or even just a time to remember,” Asad shared. “I will always remember the late night conversations, jokes cracked during practice, and conversations we shared over lane lines.”
The program also included a special recognition of Coach Steve Castle’s remarkable contributions to the wrestling program as he stepped down as head coach at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Castle arrived on The Holy Hill in the fall 1988 as a recent graduate of Washington & Lee University. A passionate teacher and mentor, he made an immediate impact on the wrestling program as the JV head coach for four seasons before stepping into the role of head varsity coach. During his 33-year tenure, Castle led the program to nine team trophies at the state tournament, 35 league championships, and an appearance in the state finals 32 times. He remains one of the longest tenured head varsity coaches in EHS history.
Congratulations to all of our award winners!
