After a two-year hiatus, Episcopal’s Healthy Choices Speaker Series is back!
In early November, Jenni Schaefer, a best-selling author and nationally renowned speaker, spoke with students about her recovery from an eating disorder and disordered eating. She encouraged "intuitive eating," and use of one's support systems — family, friends, and medical professionals. She also shared how to be a good friend to someone with a potential eating disorder. EHS counselors held open sessions for students interested in talking further about this issue, and a follow-up advisory meeting provided more EHS-specific information.
Schaefer was the first of three Healthy Choice speakers invited to EHS this year. In January, Chris Herren will return to campus to discuss substance abuse, and in April Dr W. Chris Winters MD, a neurologist and sleep specialist, will bring his experience working with professional athletes to a discussion about healthy sleep habits.
Bringing compelling speakers to campus is one of the many ways we engage students in important conversations and help them to develop skills to support all dimensions of their well-being. More to come on Episcopal’s health and wellness programming as the year progresses.
